Scrona AG launches 128-nozzle EHD printhead at CES

Scrona AG announced a 128-nozzle electrohydrodynamic printhead at CES 2025. It is the first printhead exceeding 100 nozzles.

Prior printheads were 8 nozzles or 48 nozzles.CEO Patrick Heissler said the printhead is based on a scalable MEMS-based electrohydrodynamic Gen-3 platform that will provide greater precision than previously possible.

Such a precise printhead can be used for advanced packaging in semiconductors,  display manufacturing and host of consumer products.

For semiconductor manufacturing, the printhead can be used to dispense tiny volumes of adhesive accurately.  Also high-resolution printing of conductive interconnects is possible.

Also, the printhead can be used for applying dots and color filters to micro-LED and OLED displays.

At a busy booth in Eureka Park at CES 2025, Heissler described Scrona as a 10-year-old spinoff from ETH Zurich. The company foresees a $2 billion total addressable market for the product.  “The TAM is huge,” said Heissler. The 128-nozzle printhead is the company’s second generation printhead.
